Imprisoned, tormented and forgotten...
I’ve never seen the outside of these four walls. I was born in Nightmare Penitentiary, and I’ll probably die here too.
Or so I thought.
When an assassin comes for me, I realize I’m far more powerful than anyone knows. I’m a princess. A Druid. The last of my kind. I command the earth and can see the future. There is royal blood running through these veins.
It’s considered bad luck to kill a Druid, which means my captor is stuck by my side. The more time we spend together, the more we learn about the birthright stolen from me and the mage that stole it. And the longer I’m with him, the more my heart softens.
I never imagined that a crack in the wall would bring help. I never thought that leaving Nightmare would put me on a much different path. A path full of hope. Of freedom. Of Love. A path that leads to reclaiming the throne, with an assassin by my side.
But the future is blurry. There are two roads. One leads to happiness—to love. The other leads to demise. And even I can’t see which one wins.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review
I’ve never read a paranormal romance before so I’m very curious about this one. Although the page number has me a bit scared. Let’s found out my thoughts!
The writing style was nice. The majority was written from Princess Layne, but a number of chapters were written from Cypress. He was the assassin that went to save her. I think it’s important if you have a story written by two authors that you shouldn’t notice which of the two has written what. I thought that went very well here. There was a style where you didn’t even realize it was written by two different people. It read smoothly.
I certainly liked the story. It had been well thought out and it was moving like a smooth train. Literally.
Because the book wasn’t very thick, it also went very fast. Sometimes I thought it was going too fast. I would’ve liked more explanation, would have liked to see more description of the world. I missed this very much. I missed the magic I feel with the elaborated stories of Sarah J Maas.
They gave her powers and they were well described, but actually I wasn’t very excited. It felt like a normal novel to me in which they had all given the characters a fantasy species. You needed the magic for the plot, but otherwise it didn’t really feel like something necessary to the story for me.
I had a great time with this book. I also sympathized with the characters, so I did give the book 3.5 stars. However, I still don’t really have a clear picture of who Cypress is. Three quarters of the story I thought he was bald and then he turned out to have hair. Yet he remained bald in my head. I do not have a very clear picture of his powers and I found that very unfortunate.
I just wished it had more details and more pages, because I loved the storyline and I kinda liked the characters.
I liked it, but I don’t know if I will remember it.0
