Only in my family could a professional hockey player earning seven million dollars a year be considered a slacker.
I’m at the height of my athletic career. Yet my arrogant brother is always trying to recruit me into the family business: a global security company so secretive that I don’t even know its name.
Pass, thanks. I don’t need a summer job.
But the jerk ambushes me with a damsel in distress. That damsel is Alex, the competitive, sassy girl I knew when we were kids. Now she’s a drop-dead gorgeous woman in deep trouble.
So guess who’s on a flight to Hawaii?
It’s going to be a long week in paradise. My job is keeping Alex safe, while her job is torturing me with her tiny bikinis. Or maybe we’re torturing each other. It’s all snark and flirting until the threat against Alex gets serious. And this jock must become her major league protector.
Moonlighter is a stand-alone novel. No cliffhangers, no prior experience necessary. Contains: hackers, hockey players, and a hotel room with only one bed.
Warning: this book contains sex, drugs/alcohol or violence
Besides Elle Kennedy, New Adult author Sarina Bowen is my favorite. I was very happy that I was allowed to read this book. Once again I really enjoyed her writing style. As always, she writes from the I person and from both characters. I’ve met Eric and Alex in other stories before, so I was very curious about them.
“Don’t forget – you’ll have to pretend to like me.”
“Huh,” I say, scratching my chin. So, like, I shouldn’t ogle other women? Or pick up some chick at the bar, and take her back to my room? ”
“Or ‘course not.” A look of pure horror crosses Alex’s face.
“But baby,” I complain. Maybe your new boyfriend is a swinger. How do you feel about threesomes? ”
Eric! Her eyes bug out.
What do I think of Moonlighter
Eric is part of the Brooklyn Bruisers, so I expected it to be in that series, but nothing could be further from the truth. Yes, the Brooklyn Bruisers are included, but you don’t need the series to read it. This is a completely new series, of which this is a separate part with a closure at the end.
I really enjoyed the story. Eric is incredibly funny and Alex can have great reactions at times. Pregnancy hormones are also abundant (no, no spoiler as this is very early in the story and is not a turn of events). I really can’t wait for the next part. There were many nice characters in it. Both the bodyguard and the security guards. The story is very sweet and tough and everything at the same time. You really should read this!
I even wiped away a tear.
“We’ll share the bed,” I repeat. I’m so tired right now I just need a tiny fractional part of the bed and I’ll be gone from this world.
Fine. If I can pretend to be your boyfriend outside of this room, I suppose I can pretend to be a gentleman inside it. ”
“Is it that much of a stretch?” I walk over to the nearest side, lift the covers and slide in.
“I guess you’ll find out,” he says.
